How Innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Reshapes Global Healthcare

Haitong International and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council jointly release a research report named &quot;Future Prospects of the Healthcare Industry in Mainland China and Hong Kong&quot;. This report reviews the development history of the healthcare industry in China over the past 10 years and dissects the complementary advantages of China and Hong Kong for future development.Over the past 10 years, China&#39;s medical and healthcare industry has grown rapidly. As the Chinese population continues to age, chronic disease and lifestyle-related diseases have significantly increased and so has the demand for high-quality healthcare services and products. During this period, China&#39;s healthcare system has undergone three major reforms, the &#39;New Medical Reform&#39; in 2009, the &#39;Drug Administration Reform&#39; in 2015 and the &#39;Medical Insurance Reform&#39; in 2018. Driven by these major reforms, the healthcare industry accelerated its uptake of technology which provided a new impetus to its long-term development.Hong Kong, one of the leading international financial centers, has a business environment that is conducive to the practice of innovative business ideas. With the government&#39;s financial support for research and development, it has become the ideal platform for healthcare and medical companies to capitalize and expand their businesses. In 2018, the introduction of &quot;Chapter 18A&quot; of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Listing Rules opened up a new world in financing unprofitable biotech companies. This is in line with the overall trend of Chinese healthcare companies going international.By leveraging the strong institutional support and complementary advantages of China and Hong Kong, companies and investors in the healthcare and medical sector will be able to capture the ever-growing market and investment opportunity.
